Dedicated to strengthening local and global capacity in the health sciences, Dr. Martin partners with universities and governments in multiple countries to build robust training and educational programs. She received her B.A. in English and M.Ed. in International Education Policy from Vanderbilt University, and completed her Ph.D. at Tennessee State University in Public Administration and Policy. Dr. Martin joined the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health (VIGH) in 2009 and currently serves as the Associate Director for Education and Training and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy in the Vanderbilt School of Medicine (VUSM). At VIGH, she co-directs the Global Health track of the Vanderbilt MPH Program and the Graduate Certificate in Global Health, teaches multiple courses in global health across the university, and chairs the Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s (VUMC) Global Health Education Committee. Her current grant-funded work in Zambia, Liberia and Nigeria is focused on faculty development, mentorship, health policy, and health science education. Prior to her current role, she was a Fulbright Scholar to Japan in international education, designed and directed a multi-site international service-learning program, worked as an award-winning journalist at CNN, and managed the first parliamentary internship program in the Czech Republic under the European Union.
